Building experiences, not just structures

Time is the one commodity that you can't earn more of and youre always spending it. With that in mind, i'll ask you one simple question... Are you building experiences or structures?
Over the last 10 years I have seen the motives of Gingerwoodworks shift. This all began when my kids were young and I was attempting to supplement a social worker salary for a growing family with growing needs. Initially, I wasnt building a ton of things for my own family and friends, it was simply for profit.
Fast forward through the last 10 years and Ive been blessed to shift towards taking projects that mean something. I dont always mean they are heirloom type pieces of furniture, but rather they have been places, structures, rooms and tables that memories can be made or even hearts can be shaped or mended.
Many ask me a simple question, "how do I make money doing what you do?" When the answer to this isnt that simple, its actually a complex thought that lands at one thing, make enough money that you can own your own time.
Once you own your time, you can give it to those around you, build decks that those around you can spend time on, jump into pools off, and fire pit areas that lead to community and conversations.
This past couple weeks I have been working on an epoxy countertop at a local church that my buddy is the youth pastor for. I have helped him do a bunch of projects at that church, but one really has been on my heart. A couple years ago, he asked me if we could turn two old closets into a coffee lounge. He and I spent some time dreaming up a plan and we went to work.
I brought the tools and he brought some volunteers from the rank and file of the sunday morning Pews. While over at the church this last week, He and I saw and reflected in that same room we renovated. One thing we talked about was all the souls and hearts that have been mended in that room. The conversations that the church pastors have had with folks in that space.
I share this to tell you its simple, don't chase money, chase your time so you can spend it doing Kingdom things, building relationships, and leaving a legacy thats far greater than anything youve built.
Here are a few links to the progress on that room, it its now fully decorated.
